The Human Behind Lavender Leash

Hello!

My name is Kate, I am 22 years old and I’ve lived in Wakefield my whole life! I’ve always been surrounded by animals, from dogs and cats to even guinea pigs.

I started house sitting for local families about 6 years ago, and later spent 2 years working for a local dog walking and pet sitting company. I fell in love with getting to see so many pets everyday, and in May 2026 I decided to start my own pet care business! This is my full time job, but I am also doing online school, full time at Carleton University.

Having pets of my own, I know how much trust it takes to leave them with someone else. I take the time to get to know each pet and what makes them comfortable, whether they’re ready for an adventure or need a little extra patience. I want you to feel comfortable too, knowing your pets are getting plenty of love and attention while you’re away. And of course, every visit ends with an “I love you!”

I’ve worked with dogs of all different sizes, ages, and personalities, including some very nervous pups! One dog I used to walk was so anxious that he’d hide whenever someone came over. He would hide in corners or underneath tables when anyone arrived. After a few walks together, he was excited to see me and even started showing his mischievous side! Moments like that are one of my favourite parts of what I do.

Meet my pets!

Miley is a mix of Pitbull. Rottweiler, Cane Corso and Husky. She is the sweetest girl and loves all people, kids and dogs. Her & Emma Mae are the best of friends and she always loves to cuddle with him and gently lick his head. Her favourite things are treats, her shark toy and making new doggie friends! She follows me from room to room in my house and loves to stay by my side. We got her as a puppy during Covid, so I got to spend lots of time with her during her puppy days, and I miss those days so much!

Miley - 5 years old

Willow was the first cat of our kitty crew. We got her as a young kitten and she was such a small baby! She absolutely loves fuzzy blankets and likes to nibble on them and act like she’s kneading dough with her paws! She is the biggest cuddle bug and loves nothing more than to lay on me on a fuzzy blanket and have a nap. She is the grandma kitty and boss of our home and definitely makes that known to her other furry siblings!

Willow - 11 years old

Ginger - 11 years old

Ginger lived outside on a farm for the first 7 months of her life. When we got her, she was very sick with an ear infection and we had to nurse her back to good health. Not long after, we discovered that she was pregnant. Emma Mae is her son! They are still so affectionate with each other and always grooming each other’s heads. Ginger is the silliest girl and loves to nibble people’s toes and will do anything for some head scratches!

When Emma Mae was born, we thought he was a girl, so we decided to give him a girl name. We found out not longer after that he was a boy, and changed his name to Georgie but it never stuck! My sweet boy was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2025 and he gets insulin by needle twice a day at home. He actually loves getting his medicine and is always such a good boy when I give it to him. He knows that he gets a treat after! He is the biggest piggie with food!

Emma Mae - 10 years old

In Loving Memory Of Max

November 13 2011- February 19 2026

This is my sweet angel, Max. I was 7 years old when my family got him as an 8 week old puppy. He got me through elementary school, high school, college and starting university. He would walk my brother and I to our bus stop in the morning and always be waiting for us when we got back, always on time. He was my whole heart and soul and I miss him every single day. He was the happiest guy and always wanted me to hold his paw. He was obsessed with the snow and wanted to stay out all day. We would have to force him to come back inside to warm up! He was a Husky and Lab mix, so his Husky side definitely showed a lot, especially when he would howl back to the wolves.! Max was quite the silly pup when he was young. He always tried to get into things he wasn’t supposed to and even managed to steal my entire fruit flan I had for my birthday! He calmed down a lot in his senior years and was the absolute most lovable and affectionate boy. I lost a huge part of me when he passed, and he will forever live on in my mind.

I love you forever Maxie!
